Hammick, M. & Haig, A. (2007) The Best Evidence Medical Education Collaboration: processes, products and principles.
In this paper the authors describe the development of the Best Evidence Medical Education Collaboration (BEME), an organisation committed to evidence-informed policy and practice in health care sciences education. BEME supports moves from opinion-based to evidence-informed education, advocating that more critical thought be given to the practice of education.
Several BEME systematic reviews have now been published; and there are others in progress (see Table 1). All BEME reviews are available separately as BEME Guides and can be accessed at http://www.bemecollaboration.org.
This production and dissemination of reviews supports the BEME ideology of evidence-informed practice and policy, and its belief that this is key to enhancing student learning and practitioner capability.
